TAMPA \u2014 The 2025-2026 Bank of America Broadway at Straz Center season is well underway as \u201cKimberly Akimbo\u201d comes to the stage this week, running Nov. 18-23 in Morsani Hall. A new musical about growing up and growing old, \u201cKimberly Akimbo\u201d is the winner of five Tony Awards including Best Musical.\u202fIt features Tony Award-winning book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, a Tony Award-winning score by Jeanine Tesori, choreography by Danny Mefford and direction by the Tony-nominated Jessica Stone.<\/p>\n

Kimberly is about to turn 16 and recently moved with her family to a new town in suburban New Jersey. Kim is forced to navigate family dysfunction, a rare genetic condition, her first crush \u2026 and possible felony charges. Ever the optimist, she is determined to find happiness against all odds and embark on a great adventure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis season\u2019s Broadway at Straz Center shines with Tony Award winners for Best Musical \u2018Kimberly Akimbo\u2019 and \u2018The Outsiders,\u2019 said Greg Holland, CEO and president of the Straz. \u201cTony Award-winning Best Play \u2018Stereophonic\u2019 takes audiences into a recording studio while rock musicians lay down tracks for a new album.\u201d<\/p>\n

The winner of four 2024 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, \u201cThe Outsiders\u201d is adapted from S.E. Hinton\u2019s seminal novel and\u202fFrancis Ford Coppola\u2019s iconic film. This thrilling new musical features a book by\u202fAdam Rapp\u202fwith\u202fJustin Levine, music and lyrics by\u202fJamestown Revival\u202f(Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance) and\u202fTony Award winner Justin Levine, music supervision, orchestration and arrangements by Justin Levine, choreography by\u202fRick Kuperman\u202fand Jeff\u202fKuperman and direction by Tony Award winner\u202fDanya Taymor.\u202f<\/p>\n

In Tulsa, Oklahoma, 1967, Ponyboy Curtis, his best friend Johnny Cade and their greaser family of \u201coutsiders\u201d battle with their affluent rivals, the socs. \u201cThe Outsiders\u201d\u202fnavigates the complexities of self-discovery as the greasers dream about who they want to become in a world that may never accept them. With a dynamic original score, \u201cThe Outsiders\u201d\u202fis a story of friendship, family, belonging \u2026 and the realization that there is still \u201clots of good in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Broadway\u2019s most fun hit musical, \u201c& Juliet,\u201d flips the script on the greatest love story ever told, imagining what would happen next if Juliet hadn\u2019t ended it all over Romeo and got a second chance at life and love \u2014 on her own terms. This audience favorite is created by the Emmy-winning writer of \u201cSchitt\u2019s Creek\u201d and features a playlist of iconic pop hits from Max Martin and his collaborators, including \u201cSince U Been Gone,\u201d \u201cRoar,\u201d \u201cI Want It That Way,\u201d \u201cConfident\u201d and more.<\/p>\n

Along the way, you\u2019ll meet the musical mentor who changes her life, her dynamic family and the neighborhood that helps her grow. The\u202fensuing pressures could spark their\u202fbreakup \u2014 or\u202ftheir breakthrough. Based on the best-selling novel that inspired the iconic film, \u201cThe Notebook\u201d tells the story of Allie and Noah, both from different worlds, who share a lifetime of love despite the forces that threaten to pull them apart. \u201cThe Notebook\u201d is a deeply moving portrait of the enduring power of love.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Notebook\u201d is directed by Michael Greif and Schele Williams and features music and lyrics by multi-platinum singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson, book by Bekah Brunstetter and choreography by Katie Spelman.<\/p>\n
