WTXL-TV<\/a> says the apartment complex was Social Seminole, a student living community.<\/p>\n“I heard some screams and thought there was like a fight going on,” Josh Cardonas, who lives in the complex, told the outlet. “I’m a little nosy, so as soon as I open the door, I just see the whole building up in flames. It went by pretty quickly and spread to the next building as well. It’s crazy. I’m speechless.”<\/p>\n
Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming through one of the buildings, with multiple people reportedly trapped inside their apartments on several floors.<\/p>\n
A second alarm was quickly called for more crews to respond to the scene. The Tallahassee Police Department, Florida State University Police Department, Leon County EMS and the American Red Cross all responded to the scene.<\/p>\n
Other nearby apartment buildings were also evacuated while crews worked to take out the flames.<\/p>\n
TFD began rescue operations and were able to rescue two people from the second floor safely. However, six other people were taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.<\/p>\n
Firefighters continued bringing the fire under control with multiple units and aerial trucks to prevent it from spreading. Crews managed to save half of the building’s structure and its apartment units.<\/p>\n
One firefighter received minor injuries following the incident.<\/p>\n
