TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Each Thursday, the U.S. Drought Monitor is updated to reflect the location and intensity of drought across the United States. <\/p>\n
During a Nov. 20 update, a portion of our region was placed in the \u2018Exceptional\u2019 category. <\/p>\n
\u2018Exceptional\u2019 is the most severe level on the U.S. Drought Monitor\u2019s scale, and it is relatively rare for our region. <\/p>\n
For reference, the last time Leon County was placed in an Exceptional drought was 2012. <\/p>\n
It has been an extremely dry meteorological fall. Since September 1, Tallahassee has only recorded 1.53 inches of rain. <\/p>\n
Since 1900, only one meteorological fall has been drier. In 1931, Tallahassee only recorded 1.14 inches from September 1 through November 30. <\/p>\n
Even with spotty rain chances in the forecast, 2025 will likely be one of the driest meteorological falls on record when November ends. <\/p>\n
Because of the dry weather, the fire danger continues to be elevated. <\/p>\n
As a result, a couple of counties have issued burn bans. <\/p>\n
Burn ban issued for Jefferson County residents as drought continues<\/a>Gadsden County Sheriff\u2019s Office issues county-wide burn ban<\/a><\/p>\n Temperatures also continue to run above average across the area. On November 19, Tallahassee set a new daily record high. The previous record was 84\u00ba set in 1985.
