The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season saw its 12th named storm form Monday with the arrival of Tropical Storm Lorenzo, but it\u2019s a system not expected to threaten land.<\/p>\n
As of the National Hurricane Center\u2019s 5 p.m. advisory, Lorenzo had 50 mph sustained winds located about 1,180 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands moving northwest at 12 mph.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis motion is expected through Tuesday, followed by a turn to the north Tuesday night. A northeastward motion is expected on Wednesday,\u201d forecasters said. \u201cLittle change in strength is forecast during the next day or so, but some gradual intensification is possible later in the week.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tropical-storm-force winds extend out up to 160 miles from the center.<\/p>\n
Of the 12 named storms this year, four have grown into hurricanes, and three of those became major hurricanes.<\/p>\n
Only one of those, Tropical Storm Chantal, made a U.S. landfall this year.<\/p>\n

Rough surf also remains present.
