BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech football team fell to No. 14 Miami Saturday afternoon 34-17 in the home finale of the 2025 season. With the result, the Hokies are 3-8 (2-5 ACC) on the season, while the Hurricanes moved to 9-2 (5-2).<\/p>\n
Miami received the ball first and marched down the field, scored on their opening drive after an eight-play drive capped by a 20-yard pass from\u00a0Carson Beck to Elija Lofton. \u00a0<\/p>\n
The Hokies also scored with their first possession thanks to the right foot of Kyle Lowe<\/a> who handled all placekicking duties in the game. He converted a 30-yard field goal, the first of his career to bring the score to 7-3 in favor of the Hurricanes.\u00a0Lowe wore Coach Beamer’s number 25 jersey in the game, his fifth time wearing it. No player has worn 25 more often than Lowe since the Hokies began giving it to an athlete on special teams in 2016.\u00a0<\/p>\n From there, the ‘Canes would stretch their lead to 20-3 by halftime thanks to three different scoring drives that resulted in a touchdown and two field goals.<\/p>\n The higlight of the second half was freshman Jeffrey Overton’s 38-yard touchdown rush, which was the first of his career.<\/p>\n Late in the fourth quarter William “Pop” Watson entered the game at quarteback and led the Hokies down the field for a scoring drive that he finished off with a three-yard touchdown run, his first of the season.<\/p>\n Game Notes Up Next
\u2022For kicker Kyle Lowe<\/a>, it was his first time attempting a PAT or field goal. He scored the first five points of his career in the game. He also had an onside kick that was recovered by the Hokies in the fourth quarter. It was the second time this season that the Hokies had recovered one (vs. ODU Sept. 13).
\u2022The defense recorded three pass breakups against Beck and the Hurricanes with Tyson Flowers<\/a>, Kaleb Spencer<\/a> and Thomas Williams<\/a> each registering one.
\u2022The Hokies’ 194 rushing total was the most by a team against the Hurricanes this season.
\u2022Watson played for the first time since October 11 at Georgia Tech and recorded the second rushing score of his career in the game.<\/p>\n
The Hokies will close the season on Saturday, Nov. 29 at rival Virginia.
