PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 A missing non-verbal 5-year-old boy’s body was tragically found in a lake in Port St. Lucie late Monday night.<\/p>\n
Officials with the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) say officers responded to a home on Northwest Wisk Fern Circle regarding the disappearance of Neymir Luka Valere, who is on the autism spectrum.<\/p>\n
Ring doorbell video from a neighbor\u2019s home shows the five-year-old boy running along the sidewalk around 4:40 P.M. However, Neymir’s mother didn’t report him missing to the police until just after 8 P.M.<\/p>\n
“The mother thought the child was with an older sibling in a room upstairs in the house, and later on, she ends up discovering that the [teen] had left,\u201d said Police Chief Leo Nymczyk.<\/p>\n

(CBS12) \u2014 A resident from The Club at Boynton Lakes is speaking out after a coyote fatally attacked one of her dogs during a morning walk\u2014an incident that has left neighbors on edge and sparked renewed calls for safety.<\/p>\n Sandra Ciminelli says the attack happened in seconds, right in front of her driveway on November 7. She was walking her three dogs\u2014Maddie, Molly, and Megan\u2014when a coyote suddenly appeared.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t even know we had coyotes, and one came out from nowhere and started attacking them,\u201d Ciminelli said.<\/p>\n According to Ciminelli, the coyote charged at her dogs without warning, getting hold of Megan, a 12-year-old Yorkie mix. Ciminelli was able to free Megan from the coyote’s jaws, but just as she thought all three dogs were heading to safety inside their home, Megan ran back down the street.<\/p>\n Read the full story here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Fort Pierce nurse charged with stealing pain meds meant for patients at HCA hospital<\/p>\n FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 For the second time this year, an HCA Florida nurse in South Florida has been arrested on accusations of stealing narcotics meant for patients \u2014 this time at Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, according to newly released court records.<\/p>\n Nichole Spruitenburg, 38, of Port St. Lucie, was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail on Nov. 16 after being extradited from Marquette, Michigan. Investigators say the Lawnwood Hospital nurse repeatedly stole pain medications and diluted doses intended for patients.<\/p>\n Spruitenburg is charged with 13 counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and 13 counts of grand theft of a controlled substance. Her bond is set at $130,000.<\/p>\n HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital provided the following statement to CBS12 News:<\/p>\n HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital has safeguards in place to ensure medications are administered and accounted for properly. These safeguards helped our team identify the possible diversion. We notified law enforcement and assisted with their investigation. The individual is no longer employed at our facility. We remain fully committed to preventing drug diversion and will continue to work with state and federal authorities to support prosecution and appropriate licensure actions when necessary, upholding the highest standards of care and professional conduct.<\/p>\n Read the full story here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Deputy dead, 3 injured, including suspect, in eviction shooting in Indian River County<\/p>\n INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 An Indian River County deputy was killed, another deputy was shot in the shoulder, and a locksmith is also in critical condition after a shooting during an eviction at the Bermuda Club on Friday morning.<\/p>\n Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers held a news conference at noon to address the situation. During the press conference, he confirmed the death of Deputy Terri Mashkow, who had dedicated 25 years of service to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Mashkow was 47 years old and was involved in a standard eviction process when the incident occurred, the sheriff said.<\/p>\n Sheriff Flowers said another deputy was injured in the shooting. Deputy Florentino \u201cTino\u201d Arizpe, a 25-year veteran, was shot in the shoulder and is recovering at Lawnwood Hospital. A locksmith involved in the eviction process was also shot and injured. (CBS12) \u2014 A Vero Beach man is accused of firing rounds into a campground, leading SWAT to bust into his home and find guns, snakes, and a backyard \u201cshooting gallery.\u201d<\/p>\n Deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) say they responded to the 7800 block of 16th Street in Vero Beach around 9 p.m. on Sunday for reports of a suspicious incident.<\/p>\n Upon arrival, a Sergeant reported seeing tracer rounds going across 16th Street as he was driving west from 74th Avenue.<\/p>\n After figuring out the source of the gunfire, a home at 8187 Westfield Circle, deputies say they attempted to make contact with the homeowner, later identified as 35-year-old Brandon Harnois, to no avail.<\/p>\n Read the full story here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Find more ways to stay up to date with your latest local news.
