ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 Thanksgiving may still be days away, but for many Americans, the Christmas season has already arrived. This year, however, holiday shoppers may notice something different: Higher prices on many of the decorations they typically rely on.<\/p>\n
According to Jamie Warner, Executive Director of the American Christmas Tree Association, newly imposed tariffs are having a noticeable impact on the cost of some holiday decorations that are imported from China.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe tariffs have caused an increase in price from about 10 to 15 percent this year,\u201d Warner said.<\/p>\n

With tariffs raising the cost of those imports, the association is advising shoppers to start early before supplies shrink.<\/p>\n [WATCH: Tree lighting at Disney Springs]<\/p>\n \u201cInventory on artificial Christmas trees and Christmas d\u00e9cor will be a little bit thinner because less was ordered because of the tariffs,\u201d Warner explained.<\/p>\n While artificial trees are becoming more expensive, real-tree sellers may see a boost. At Josario\u2019s Christmas Trees in Orlando, owner Jose Rivas says demand is already spiking.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s all sizes of trees,\u201d he said, noting that some cost as little as $30, offering a budget-friendly alternative for families feeling the pinch.<\/p>\n Rivas points out one thing his trees don\u2019t come with: tariffs.<\/p>\n That price stability has brought shoppers\u2014very early.<\/p>\n \u201cWe actually started getting calls as early as before Halloween, so this year we have seen a lot higher demand than typical years,\u201d Rivas added.<\/p>\n [VIDEO: Crews begin installing Christmas Tree in Downtown Orlando]<\/p>\n Beyond price considerations, Rivas believes real Christmas trees offer environmental and sentimental benefits.<\/p>\n \u201cThey don\u2019t fill up landfills,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s not the same tree.
