INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 The suspect who shot three and killed Deputy Sweeting-Mashkow has succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.<\/p>\n
In a post announcing 33-year-old Michael Halberstam’s death, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) also announced that Sweeting-Mashkow has been posthumously promoted to Sergeant.<\/p>\n
According to Sheriff Flowers, the tragic incident occurred when deputies were attempting to evict Halberstam from a residence. As the deputies and the locksmith entered the home, he allegedly opened fire indiscriminately at them.<\/p>\n
