PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 A man was arrested Thursday after blocking an intersection, wielding a screwdriver, and swiping an officer with his car in an attempt to flee.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, officers with the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) say they pulled over a driver, later identified as 26-year-old Kenny Bonnet, on St. Lucie West Blvd. because his car was blocking an intersection at a red light, in accordance with the agency’s recent “Don’t Block the Box” crackdown.<\/p>\n
After officers approached Bonnet, they explained the reason for the stop and instructed him to pull over, but he refused to comply, per police.<\/p>\n
While officers spoke to Bonnet through the driver’s side window, they reportedly spotted a screwdriver gripped in his left hand near the driver’s side door.<\/p>\n
See also: Former Palm Beach Central High School student nabbed for threatening school shooting<\/a><\/p>\n “It’s on the News!” the officer said, explaining that the crackdown has been heavily reported. “But you can do this anyways, whether you watch it or not.”<\/p>\n Police say Bonnet ignored them and slowly started to drive around the line of stopped vehicles, and then drove around the officer and fled.<\/p>\n PSLPD says he didn’t get far. He was pulled over for a felony traffic stop, a short distance later, and booked on counts of failure to stop and aggravated battery on a police officer for swiping the officer with his car when he attempted to flee.<\/p>\n Find more ways to stay up to date with your latest local news.
