Jacksonville police arrested a suspect in a double shooting on Nov. 22 that claimed the life of an 18-year-old man and injured another person at a Westside fast food restaurant.<\/p>\n

Dawud Burritt, 28, faces multiple charges, including murder, in the shootings at Burger King<\/a>, 7900 Blanding Blvd., the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office<\/a> announced in a Nov. 23 news release.<\/p>\n

Matthew Jackson died, and another man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries but is expected to recover, according to the Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

Jackson “just took his ASVAB to serve this country as a Marine,” his mother Natasha Shonta Jackson told the Times-Union via a message on Facebook.<\/p>\n

“My son was loved and loved others. \u2026 My son was a great kid,” she said.<\/p>\n

Developed by the U.S. Department of Defense, the ASVAB is the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery \u2014 a multiple aptitude test that assesses a wide range of skills.<\/p>\n

Man fatally shot at Jacksonville Burger King restaurant<\/p>\n

Police found Jackson and the second victim about 8:30 p.m., Nov. 22, in response to a report of a shooting at the restaurant, Sgt. Ash Saunders, a Sheriff’s Office homicide detective, said in a news release early Nov. 23.<\/p>\n

Police provided emergency medical care until Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department first responders arrived and rushed the victims to the hospital, he said.<\/p>\n

Saunders also said multiple people were detained and interviewed by detectives working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shootings and potential suspects..<\/p>\n

The Sheriff’s Office said “we quickly identified Burritt as the gunman” and arrested him the morning of Nov. 23.<\/p>\n

Burritt was jailed without bail on charges of second-degree murder and armed burglary at the Duval County Jail, according to Sheriff’s Office inmate records.<\/p>\n
