{"id":60543,"date":"2025-11-25T19:56:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T19:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/60543\/"},"modified":"2025-11-25T19:56:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T19:56:11","slug":"florida-bear-hunt-to-move-forward-after-judge-rejects-halt-request","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/60543\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida bear hunt to move forward after judge rejects halt request"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A Leon County circuit judge on Monday rejected a request for a temporary injunction to halt Florida\u2019s first black bear hunt in a decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Circuit Judge Angela Dempsey ruled against Bear Warriors United, a Central Florida-based nonprofit, stating that the group failed to demonstrate a \u2018substantial likelihood of success on the merits\u2019 in its lawsuit challenging the hunt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Bear Warriors United argued that the hunt would \u2018result in the needless destruction of Florida black bears.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Florida is estimated to have more than 4,000 black bears, which have become a concern in some areas due to interactions with humans in residential neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The hunt, which has issued 172 permits, will take place in several regions across the state, including the Apalachicola area west of Tallahassee, areas west of Jacksonville, north of Orlando, and the Big Cypress region southwest of Lake Okeechobee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wftv.com\/mobile-apps\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Click here;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Click here<\/a> to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps.
