The longtime college football analyst called the decision by the Florida State Seminoles to retain head coach Mike Norvell \u201ca business decision,\u201d citing the significant financial implications and the priorities of the program coming first.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>On his \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hU1wlMIOeVQ\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:See Ball Get Ball;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">See Ball Get Ball<\/a>\u201d podcast, Pollack noted that FSU\u2019s announcement of Norvell\u2019s return in 2026 came amid mounting pressure on the coach following a decline in team performance. The\u00a0 roughly $58.4 million buyout if FSU opted to fire Norvell now, decreasing to approximately $45.6 million after next season is key in all of this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey announce their timing now, they announce they\u2019re going to keep him,&#8221;\u00a0Pollack said. &#8220;I think there\u2019s plenty of factors that goes into this. FSU is probably frustrated because I think just ask yourself as an FSU fan, like are we trying to get to the next level and get a great coach? I thought this was really, really interesting because when you ask that question, like, are we good enough, this is Norvell\u2019s sixth season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Pollack argued that beyond the coaching number, FSU is strategically reallocating resources.\u00a0 \u201cThey\u2019re going to spend money on the roster, rather than a coaching change,\u201d Pollack added.<\/p>\n<p>Norvell must deliver national championship-level results or everything could shift.
