VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. \u2013 A family in Volusia County is urging Sheriff Mike Chitwood and his office to remove a video from Facebook that includes their teenage son\u2019s face.<\/p>\n
The video depicts the aftermath of what authorities said was three teens kicking a Deltona woman\u2019s door Sunday night.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not really \u2018Ding Dong Ditch\u2019 if you\u2019re kicking doors,\u201d the post accompanying the video states. \u201cThree teenagers are charged with felony attempted burglary for kicking a Deltona woman\u2019s door last night.\u201d<\/p>\n
[EXCLUSIVE:Become a News 6 Insider (it\u2019s FREE)<\/a>| PINIT!Share your photos<\/a>]<\/p>\n As of Tuesday afternoon, the video \u2014 which has been posted on the Facebook pages of both Chitwood and the Volusia Sheriff\u2019s Office \u2014 has amassed more than 57,000 views.<\/p>\n \u201cI think Chitwood is doing it for his social media platform,\u201d said Nate Barnhart, the father of one of the teens arrested.<\/p>\n Barnhart and his wife, Jennifer Koss, drove to News 6 on Tuesday to speak about their concerns regarding the video.<\/p>\n They said their son, whose face is the only one of the teens\u2019 seen in the video, has been charged as a minor.<\/p>\n \u201cThese children are real, living, breathing people,\u201d Koss said. <\/p>\n The teen\u2019s parents said he has been receiving threats from adults since the publication of the video.<\/p>\n \u201c[Chitwood\u2019s] bullying children \u2014 is what he\u2019s doing,\u201d Barnhart said. <\/p>\n Koss e-mailed Chitwood Monday, expressing her frustration.<\/p>\n \u201cI am coming to you as a concerned parent,\u201d the email starts. \u201cI fully understand your reasoning behind showing children\u2019s faces on social media to try and correct their bad behavior. The problem is you are going about it the wrong way.\u201d<\/p>\n Koss shared Chitwood\u2019s response with News 6, which reads in part:<\/p>\n \u201cI appreciate your thoughts. However as the elected sheriff, I will follow the letter of the law and I will continue to do what I\u2019m doing.\u201d<\/p>\n Koss objected to Chitwood\u2019s characterization of the matter.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t understand what law it is that states that he has to put a child\u2019s face on the internet,\u201d Koss told News 6.<\/p>\n The post accompanying the video includes this warning:<\/p>\n \u201cGetting arrested is one likely outcome.
