TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – DeOnte Brown, director of the Center for Academic Retention & Enhancement (CARE) at Florida State University, is now the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, per an FSU announcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Brown\u2019s experience with the university dates back to 2010, as he previously served as a CARE academic success coach and later as a program coordinator.\tBrown returned to FSU in 2021 as assistant dean of Undergraduate Studies and as the FSU CARE director. <\/p>\n

The CARE program at FSU assists first-generation students, Pell-grant eligible students and those who\u2019ve experienced homelessness or foster care. According to the announcement, the CARE program is a part of the Division of Undergraduate Studies and the Division of Student Affairs.<\/p>\n

Per the announcement, Brown is from Quincy and is also a first-generation student. He received his bachelor\u2019s in public administration from the University of Central Florida. He also received a Master\u2019s of Education from FAMU and a Doctor of Philosophy from Clemson University, where he held administrative positions.<\/p>\n

Vice President for Student Academic Success Joe O\u2019Shea said in the announcement that Brown impacted the programs greatly. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe has helped create powerful learning environments that support and engage FSU students to reach their highest potential, and I\u2019m excited to see Dr. Brown bring his thoughtfulness and collaborative energy to this new role,\u201d O\u2019Shea said.<\/p>\n

Brown began his new role on Nov. 14 and he will continue to lead CARE as FSU starts a nationwide search for a new FSU CARE director. <\/p>\n

\u201cMy personal commitment to student success is powered by the belief that every student deserves access to opportunity, support and pathways to excellence,\u201d Brown said. <\/p>\n
