To mark the release of Gyalgerba, Major Lazer <\/a>is hosting a Miami Art Week block party on December 4 at Coyo Taco<\/a> in Wynwood, with proceeds benefiting Hurricane Melissa relief efforts in Jamaica. The event will feature a Major Lazer Soundsystem <\/a>set, plus appearances from Miami staple DJ Chipman and longtime dancehall<\/a> figure Silent Addy. Rather than opting for a typical release party, the group turned the moment into a fundraiser, directing ticket and merch revenue toward American Friends of Jamaica<\/a> and disaster-response organization CORE<\/a>.<\/p>\n In a recent interview with New Times<\/a>, the collective celebrated the addition of a fourth member, British-Jamaican singer America Foster, who is at the forefront of the new mixtape, Gyalgerba. \u201cDiplo came across me on social media,\u201d she says. \u201cHe saw my energy and all the crazy stuff, but also the talent. I sent him demos, he saw my freestyles. Then I came to the studio, and we made about five tracks last year, including \u2018Bruk Down.\u2019 By February 2025, I was confirmed as the fourth member. Diplo would tell the story better, but yeah, energy and talent.\u201d<\/p>\n Major Lazer\u2019s sound \u2014 and this particular album \u2014 has strong Dancehall DNA. The influence of Caribbean culture has been one of the signature marks in the group\u2019s sound and one of the reasons that make it so unique. When New Times talked to Walshy Fire earlier this month, he made clear the group\u2019s love for the Caribbean island nation: \u201cWe always want to represent Jamaica to the world,\u201d Walshy Fire says. \u201cIt\u2019s everyone\u2019s favorite music, whether they realize it or not.
