FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 In an early morning Thanksgiving incident, a driver was shot at while traveling down US-1 in Fort Pierce, leading to a crash into a concrete power pole that erupted into flames, resulting in a temporary road closure.<\/p>\n
The Fort Pierce Police Department (FPPD) said that at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of a crash in the 1600 block of US-1.<\/p>\n
Upon arrival, police reported finding a vehicle that had collided with a concrete power pole and was on fire. Fortunately, FPPD said that the occupants managed to exit the vehicle before the flames could spread.<\/p>\n
According to FPPD, their initial investigations revealed that while traveling southbound on US-1, the driver\u2019s car was fired upon by an unknown vehicle. <\/p>\n
As a result, the driver sustained a gunshot wound, lost control, and veered off the road into a pole, which ignited the vehicle, per the report.<\/p>\n
