(WITN) &#8211; Ahead of the Thanksgiving feasts, some people decided to lace up their running shoes for a turkey trot in Jacksonville. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Organizers from Onslow Community Outreach say 1,000 people registered to race in the second annual turkey trot at the Jacksonville Commons this morning. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The 5k trot kicked off at 8:30 a.m., followed by the Giblet 1-Miler. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">This year\u2019s theme was \u201cRun, Eat, Nap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The run raised $30,000 to support the Onslow Christmas Cheer program, which helps provide Christmas meals and gifts to families in need this holiday season. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Organizers say all the money raised is directly given to help provide toys and food to Christmas Cheer. <\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 WITN.
