PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 Hundreds of Port St. Lucie residents are urging city leaders to halt the development of a new United Soccer League stadium in their community. <\/p>\n
A Change.org petition<\/a>, which is nearing 500 signatures, calls the project “ill-timed and fiscally misguided.” <\/p>\n Those who have signed the petition have concerns about increased traffic in an already congested area and propose alternative uses for the funds, such as investing in youth sports facilities, creating a more walkable community, and addressing infrastructure issues.<\/p>\n The proposed 6,000-seat stadium is set to be built on Walton Road and U.S. 1, alongside housing, hotels, shops, and restaurants. <\/p>\n Port St. Lucie kicks off new era with pro soccer team and new stadium<\/a><\/p>\n The developer will initially fund the project, with reimbursement through Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) revenue, meaning no upfront taxpayer dollars.<\/p>\n CBS12 News plans to question city leaders about how they plan to address potential transportation improvements related to the stadium.
