{"id":6370,"date":"2025-10-16T10:57:26","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T10:57:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/6370\/"},"modified":"2025-10-16T10:57:26","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T10:57:26","slug":"federal-shutdown-leaves-tsa-officers-at-fort-lauderdale-airport-working-without-pay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/6370\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal shutdown leaves TSA officers at Fort Lauderdale airport working without pay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is day two of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/government-shutdown-2025-funding-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">federal government shutdown<\/a> and Transportation Security Administration officers at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport remain on the job without pay.<\/p>\n<p>TSA workers are considered essential employees, meaning they must continue to work through the shutdown even as their paychecks are delayed.<\/p>\n<p>Charlie Evans, traveling through Fort Lauderdale on his way to JFK and then on to an international flight, said he worries about what comes next.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hate long lines, but I also hate the fact that people have to not show up because of this shutdown,&#8221; Evans said.<\/p>\n<p>Union warns of sacrifices for TSA officers<\/p>\n<p>With Congress deadlocked on a funding deal and the White House warning of possible mass layoffs, the uncertainty is hitting the federal workforce hard.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s terrifying for the federal workforce,&#8221; said TSA union representative John Hubert. &#8220;People will be making sacrifices. Some can&#8217;t pay rent.
