FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2013 It takes something special to steal the spotlight from Lionel Messi<\/a>, especially in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.<\/p>\n

Inter Miami CF<\/a> teammate Tadeo Allende<\/a> did just that on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Allende made history in the Herons\u2019 5-1 Eastern Conference Final rout<\/a> of New York City FC<\/a>, scoring his first career hat trick to tie the league record of eight goals in a single postseason as Miami booked their spot as hosts of MLS Cup presented by Audi on Dec. 6 against Western Conference champions Vancouver Whitecaps FC<\/a> (2:30 pm ET | MLS Season Pass, Apple TV<\/a>; FOX, FOX Deportes; TSN, RDS).<\/p>\n

\u201cTo play this way and score these goals with the team playing a great game, it\u2019s very satisfying,\u201d Allende told reporters post-match.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 I\u2019m enjoying it. It\u2019s my first title [conference champion], my first hat trick as a professional, so I\u2019m very happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Playoff breakout<\/p>\n

Allende has peaked at the perfect time for the Herons.<\/p>\n

The striker, on loan from LaLiga side Celta Vigo, contributed 11g\/1a during the regular season. Those are solid but not overwhelming numbers. As a result, the 26-year-old was a divisive figure among fans and critics alike.<\/p>\n

Allende has silenced all doubters in the playoffs.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, he gave the Herons an early two-goal cushion with a nine-minute brace before rounding out the result just ahead of the full-time whistle by chipping USMNT<\/a> goalkeeper Matt Freese<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This latest outburst followed two consecutive braces from Allende \u2013 in Game 3 of Miami\u2019s Round One Best-of-3 Series vs. Nashville SC<\/a> and the Eastern Conference Semifinals at FC Cincinnati<\/a> \u2013 as he surpassed Messi (six goals) as the club\u2019s top postseason scorer.<\/p>\n

“Today, we saw the best version of him,” head coach Javier Mascherano told reporters of Allende, who’s partnered up top with fellow Argentines Messi and Mateo Silvetti<\/a> for Miami’s last three games \u2013 all of them won by four-goal margins.<\/p>\n

\n Stay hungry<\/p>\n

Now it’s onto MLS Cup on Dec. 6 at Chase Stadium, where Allende hopes to keep the goals coming and grow his already-historic playoff legacy.<\/p>\n

While lifting the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy would be the perfect way to crown his season with Miami, Allende already feels vindicated by his postseason performances.<\/p>\n
