Closing arguments were set to be heard Thursday in the murder trial of a woman who’s accused of killing her husband and who made national headlines when she became pregnant while behind bars<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Daisy Link, 30, is facing second-degree murder charges in the 2022 killing of her husband, Pedro Jimenez, during a violent confrontation at her Homestead home.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors said Link fired out of “rage” while Jimenez was running away in fear for his life, and claim Link misled investigators, pretending she had simply found her husband injured in an alleyway.<\/p>\n

Link admits to firing the shot but insists she acted in self-defense, claiming years of abuse.<\/p>\n

Link took the stand at her trial on Wednesday<\/a>, and testified that Jim\u00e9nez showed up uninvited and became physically aggressive after she confessed to cheating on him. She said he ran toward her home, attempting to lock her out, prompting her to grab a gun.<\/p>\n

The bullet struck Jim\u00e9nez in the leg. Moments later, he collapsed and died from his injuries.<\/p>\n

On the stand, Link also described a history of domestic violence.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe pinned my arms down with his legs and began to bludgeon me with a pistol \u2014 with the metal end of the gun,\u201d she testified, recalling an incident just five days before the shooting.<\/p>\n

Link said Jim\u00e9nez had pistol-whipped her with the same firearm that took his life \u2014 but she never reported the assault.<\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t,\u201d Link said. \u201cHe would have gotten deported. I would have gotten the kids taken away. That\u2019s the father of my kids. It\u2019s not like I didn\u2019t love him, I did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite her testimony, prosecutors argue Link fired out of anger rather than fear, then walked away, allegedly telling Jim\u00e9nez he would be fine.<\/p>\n

Link also brought in her 11-year-old son to tell jurors he witnessed the incident prior to the shooting and that Jimenez fired a shot that day but missed his mom.<\/p>\n

The case gained national attention last year after reports surfaced that Link, while in jail awaiting trial, conspired with a now-convicted killer to get pregnant by passing semen through the jail\u2019s air vents.<\/p>\n

According to court records, Link and a male inmate, Joan Depaz, began communicating through the jail\u2019s ventilation system. Depaz, 24, was arrested in 2020 and later convicted of second-degree murder. He is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence, Florida Department of Corrections records show.<\/p>\n

Link gave birth in June 2024, and family members are now caring for the child.
