{"id":67443,"date":"2025-12-02T03:32:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T03:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/67443\/"},"modified":"2025-12-02T03:32:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T03:32:11","slug":"full-appeals-court-will-re-hear-floridas-drag-show-law-for-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/67443\/","title":{"rendered":"Full appeals court will re-hear Florida\u2019s drag show law for kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will hold a full-court hearing on a 2023 Florida law aimed at preventing children from attending drag shows, after earlier rulings blocked it on First Amendment grounds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The law, contested by the Central Florida venue Hamburger Mary\u2019s, seeks to prevent children from attending adult live performances that portray or simulate sexual content.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Florida law considers any show that features or imitates nudity, sexual acts, or obscene behavior in front of a live audience as an adult live performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It enables the suspension or revocation of licenses for venues that break the law and bans local governments from granting permits for events that might expose children to such performances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In June, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier requested a rehearing, which resulted in the ongoing full-court review.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The appeals court did not explain why it vacated the previous panel\u2019s ruling or why it decided to hold an en banc hearing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wftv.com\/mobile-apps\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Click here;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Click here<\/a> to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps.
