TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Tallahassee branch of the NAACP and Tallahassee Alert have launched a campaign against the proposed TMH-FSU merger. <\/p>\n
At a November town hall,<\/a> residents gathered to share concerns about a proposal to sell TMH to FSU and create FSU Health. <\/p>\n \u201cTMH is the community\u2019s hospital, and any decision must reflect the interests of the people,\u201d a statement from the organizations read. \u201cNot FSU lobbyists, or political pressure. <\/p>\n The statement also said town hall participants emphasized that City Commissioners are accountable to the voters and residents of Tallahassee.<\/p>\n \u201cAn academic health center would be a major asset for Tallahassee and the 21 counties TMH serves\u2014but it does not require selling TMH\u2019s assets,\u201d said Dr. Marlon Williams-Clark. \u201cWe can build a strong, integrated FSU\u2013TMH academic health center without giving away public wealth, and any agreement must also memorialize FAMU\u2019s health programs, which train most of the region\u2019s healthcare professionals. The City should not vote on an MOU but on a definitive, binding agreement. Anything less is sloppy governance.\u201d<\/p>\n More on the proposed TMH-FSU merger<\/p>\n The Stop the TMH Transfer campaign lists four main concerns, including protecting FAMU, indigent care and public assets. It also urges city leadership to follow \u201cgood governance standards.\u201d<\/p>\n The campaign urges a no vote at the December 10 City Commission meeting to stop the transfer.<\/p>\n This week, both organizations plan to request meetings with each commissioner to share concerns and ask for them to vote no.<\/p>\n On Wednesday, December 10, the organizations will hold a press conference outside City Hall ahead of the 3 p.m. City Commission Meeting to \u201curge commissioners to stand with the people of Tallahassee,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n \u201cTMH is public property; it belongs to the people.
