{"id":68351,"date":"2025-12-02T19:03:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T19:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/68351\/"},"modified":"2025-12-02T19:03:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T19:03:07","slug":"jimmy-evert-tennis-center-reopens-after-multimillion-dollar-upgrade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/68351\/","title":{"rendered":"Jimmy Evert Tennis Center reopens after multimillion-dollar upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Jimmy Evert Tennis Center at Holiday Park is reopening in Fort Lauderdale after a nearly yearlong renovation.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parks.fortlauderdale.gov\/Home\/Components\/FacilityDirectory\/FacilityDirectory\/70\/1091\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$9.5 million upgrade<\/a> at the center, <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/FMcaQygosi4sRXAU8\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">at 701 NE 12th Ave.<\/a>, is the result of a collaboration between Fort Lauderdale, the sports nonprofit Orange Bowl and the United States Tennis Association. The facility is having its grand opening event on Monday, and tennis legend Chris Evert is expected to attend.<\/p>\n<p>The renovation aims to elevate the site to international standards, \u201cpositioning it as a world-class venue for community play and elite global competition,\u201d the organizations said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orangebowl.org\/orange-bowl-city-of-fort-lauderdale-and-usta-partner-on-9-5-million-renovation-for-new-home-of-the-orange-bowl-international-tennis-championships\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in a news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Steve Glassman said he wants to see the center return to its former glory as one of the top tennis sites in the state if not the country. \u201cI think people are going to be really pleasantly surprised when they see the improvements,\u201d said the commissioner for the city\u2019s District 2, where the center sits. \u201cAnd we thank everyone for their patience for us to get this done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Orange Bowl committed $1.5 million while Fort Lauderdale\u2019s commitment was about $8 million to the project, the news release said.<\/p>\n<p>The site will serve as the location for the Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships (Boys\u2019 &amp; Girls\u2019 16s and 18s), which will run from Dec. 5 to Dec. 14, 2025, and will, for the first time, also feature the world\u2019s top junior wheelchair tennis players.<\/p>\n<p>Alumni of the tournament include Chris Evert, Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Ivan Lendl, Jim Courier, Roger Federer and Coco Gauff, the news release said.<\/p>\n<p>The renovations, which began in January 2025, include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 20 modern clay Courts with sub-surface irrigation systems for optimal playing conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Construction of a brand-new 700-seat stadium court, which will be named in honor of Fort Lauderdale\u2019s own tennis legend, Chris Evert.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Enhanced Infrastructure, including high-efficiency LED court lighting, new fencing, modern shade structures and renovated restrooms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Jimmy Evert Tennis Center has long been a cornerstone of Fort Lauderdale\u2019s athletic and cultural identity,\u201d Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis said in a statement. \u201cThis partnership not only honors our city\u2019s proud tennis heritage but also ensures that future generations of players, from neighborhood youth to international competitors, have a world-class venue to learn, train, and compete.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur partnership with the City of Fort Lauderdale and the USTA on this historic renovation represents a shared vision for the future of tennis in South Florida,\u201d said Henri Crockett, Orange Bowl committee president and chair.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Jimmy Evert Tennis Center at Holiday Park is reopening in Fort Lauderdale after a nearly yearlong renovation.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":68352,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[506,28,249,251,250,114,266,109,110],"class_list":{"0":"post-68351","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-fort-lauderdale","8":"tag-broward-county","9":"tag-florida","10":"tag-fort-lauderdale","11":"tag-fort-lauderdale-headlines","12":"tag-fort-lauderdale-news","13":"tag-latest-headlines","14":"tag-local-news","15":"tag-social","16":"tag-sports"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/68351","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=68351"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/68351\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/68352"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=68351"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=68351"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=68351"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
