TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Cam Brown was a standout athlete at Florida High in Tallahassee. He was a wrestler and a football player, who signed a scholarship to play football at Western Carolina. Brown was diagnosed with bone cancer his senior year, and in November of 2017, he passed away, but his memory has been kept alive through others.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a promise Florida High head wrestling coach Clay Allen made to Brown shortly before he passed away, and Allen has delivered.<\/p>\n
This weekend, for the 8th year, the Cam Brown Seminole Classic returns to Florida High, where 12 teams will compete over two days. One wrestler chosen by Brown\u2019s family will be named most outstanding wrestler for the tournament. <\/p>\n
For Allen, it\u2019s a chance to share who Brown was with others and fulfill the promise he made almost a decade ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had a parent the other day that\u2019s been in the program awhile tell me I didn\u2019t know Cam, we didn\u2019t know Cam, but because we\u2019re a part of this program, we\u2019ve learned so much about him so it feels like I do know him,\u201d said Allen. \u201cIt feels like he is part of our Florida High wrestling family still even though he\u2019s been gone for so long.\u201d<\/p>\n
The tournament begins Friday at Florida High and wraps up Saturday. Allen also awards two graduating Florida High seniors the Cam Brown Memorial Scholarship, where one male and one female each receive $500 dollars.<\/p>\n
