{"id":69460,"date":"2025-12-03T11:34:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-03T11:34:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/69460\/"},"modified":"2025-12-03T11:34:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T11:34:08","slug":"orlando-airports-hudson-news-travel-shops-to-close","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/69460\/","title":{"rendered":"Orlando airport&#8217;s Hudson News travel shops to close"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hudson Group plans to close its travel stores at the Orlando International Airport ahead of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2024\/12\/14\/orlando-international-airport-new-restaurants-ice-cream-4rivers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">major overhaul<\/a> that will add dozens of new dining and retail options to the airport\u2019s lineup, including a variety of local favorites.<\/p>\n<p>The company notified the state last month that it expects to lay off 44 employees when six Hudson News retail locations in terminals A and B shut down in January or early February of next year. The stores sell books, snacks and other travel essentials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe concessions contract is transitioning to a new operator,\u201d said Raven Padgett, a Hudson spokeswoman, in a statement. \u201cDuring this process, we are prioritizing our employees and actively working to connect impacted team members with opportunities with the new operator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A fixture in airports nationwide, Hudson operates more than 1,000 stores across North America.<\/p>\n<p>The Hudson shops in Orlando\u2019s busy airport will be occupied by new businesses, Angela Starke, an airport spokeswoman, said in an email.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is expected to start next year on the airport\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flymco.com\/elevatingmco\/current-projects\/concession-master-plan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">three-phase concession plan<\/a>, which will redevelop more than 200,000 square feet of space.
