JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 Family members are mourning a 33-year-old woman who was hit and killed in a hit-and-run crash in Mayport earlier this month, as a kind, outgoing woman who loved her family deeply. <\/p>\n
The Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office said Rebecca \u201cBecca\u201d McCarley was riding her bicycle along Wonderwood Drive near A1A when she was struck while in the bike lane. Investigators told the family they have identified a suspect and vehicle connected to the crash, though no arrests have been made.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was very outgoing, very social. She would make you laugh in a heartbeat,\u201d her grandfather, Bradley Brown, said. \u201cShe loved her family. She was free-spirited \u2014 a good kid.\u201d<\/p>\n
Family members said they first learned about the crash through friends in the Mayport area. They said they had to call around to see where she was before finally locating Becca at Memorial Hospital.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we got there, they were arriving with her,\u201d Brown said. \u201cUntil her mother identified her with tattoos, they did not even know who she was. If it hadn\u2019t been for the general public, we would not have even known it happened until hours later.\u201d <\/p>\n
The family said Becca was taken off life support on Monday and passed away early Tuesday morning. <\/p>\n
They are holding a private funeral service in Middleburg on Thursday, supported by their church community, which covered the costs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been blessed,\u201d Brown said. \u201cThe outpouring of love from our church and friends has been unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now, the family said they just want justice \u2014 and closure.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just want some answers,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n
