{"id":72508,"date":"2025-12-05T14:34:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T14:34:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/72508\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T14:34:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T14:34:07","slug":"cure-bowl-in-orlando-sets-lineup-with-usf-old-dominion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/72508\/","title":{"rendered":"Cure Bowl in Orlando sets lineup with USF, Old Dominion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2025\/12\/03\/usf-hires-ohio-state-offensive-coordinator-brian-hartline-to-replace-alex-golesh\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">USF<\/a> and Old Dominion are set to face off in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2024\/07\/16\/ucf-knights-cure-bowl-camping-world-stadium\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">StaffDNA Cure Bowl<\/a> at Camping World Stadium on Dec. 17 (5 p.m., ESPN).<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the first appearance by both programs in the bowl game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of the Orlando Sports Foundation, we are honored to welcome\u202fOld Dominion and South Florida to the StaffDNA Cure Bowl,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2025\/10\/17\/cure-bowl-events-grow-spreading-awareness-raising-money-for-cancer-cure\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alan Gooch<\/a>, Orlando Sports Foundation CEO and StaffDNA Cure Bowl Executive Director said in a statement. \u201cGameday is going to be special,\u202fas college football fans, cancer survivors and supporters, both teams\u2019 bands and the Orlando Community come together for the Owens Corning March 2Cure\u202fat T-Mobile Fiber Fan Fest\u202fbefore entering Camping World Stadium to watch the ODU Monarchs\u202fcompete against\u202fthe USF Bulls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>South Florida (9-3, 6-2 American) spent five weeks in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, climbing as high as No. 18 before finishing fourth in the American Conference. The team is currently at No. 24 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Patrick took over as interim coach at USF after Alex Golesh left to take the head coaching job at Auburn on Nov. 30.<\/p>\n<p>ODU (9-3, 6-2 Sun Belt) finished as runners-up in the East Division to James Madison. It\u2019s the second bowl appearance in the past three seasons for the Monarchs, who have won five straight games to finish out the regular season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur team is incredibly excited for this opportunity. The Cure Bowl offers an incredible location and a stellar opponent,\u201d ODU coach Ricky Rahne said in a statement. \u201cAs the son of a breast cancer survivor, this game holds special meaning to me, and I\u2019m honored to have our team chosen for this game and we look forward to representing Old Dominion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cure Bowl has raised awareness about breast cancer since its inception in 2015.
