appointed<\/a> interim athletics director on Aug. 5, 2024. <\/p>\nAccording to a Davie Police Department report, the investigation into Sung, a former Plantation resident, began in March.<\/p>\n
Sung, police said, had been \u201cterminated for unrelated incidents\u201d and NSU athletics employees were unable to find \u201cnumerous pieces of equipment\u201d that he had supposedly purchased for the school and received reimbursements for.<\/p>\n
Nine of the reimbursements, totalling $16,349, were to Sung\u2019s own company, \u201cTop Dog,\u201d the report states. Police said some of the purported purchases were charged to Sung\u2019s NSU credit card.<\/p>\n
A representative from another company said it \u201chas never done business with NSU\u201d after being contacted by Davie police, according to the report.<\/p>\n
Police said after Sung received reimbursements from NSU, the funds \u201cappeared to be spent\u201d on personal expenses, including credit card payments, shopping at Target, Publix and Amazon, auto financing, and at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, \u201camongst many others.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the report, a detective spoke to Sung on Oct. 16, who said \u201che was just trying to help the school out.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cInitially, Sung said he made the purchases within the invoices, but (the) product was never delivered; however, Sung corrected himself and said some product was delivered, but at the time of the phone call, he did not know which ones,\u201d a detective wrote. \u201cWhen I asked Sung for an approximate amount for the invoices of product(s) which were not delivered, Sung said it was \u2018roughly about whatever the severance was.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Sung is facing charges of obtaining property over $50,000 by fraud and grand theft. As of Friday afternoon, he was being held in the Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office Main Jail on a $10,000 bond.<\/p>\n
An NSU spokesperson directed Local 10 News to DPD when asked for comment on Sung\u2019s arrest on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
