Their apartment was immediately condemned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Sequenya \u201cQueen\u201d Akins talked about how the situation made her feel while fighting back tears.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI\u2019m angry, mad, because I feel less of a mom,\u201d Akins said. \u201cI don\u2019t have my kids a roof over their heads, I don\u2019t have a decent place for my kids today, that\u2019s what I\u2019m supposed to do, provide for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">While the Red Cross provided initial emergency assistance with food and one night of temporary shelter, Akins and her children have been forced to sleep in their car since Wednesday. Akins said she has limited family support in the Jacksonville area and has serious health conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Akins said she was hoping the complex would place her family in a vacant apartment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">News4JAX reached out to the complex to ask if they could provide any help for the Akins. We are still waiting to hear back.<\/p>\n<p>How to Help<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help Akins and her children secure stable housing and replace essential items lost in the fire. The family is in urgent need of:<\/p>\n<p>Temporary housing assistance<\/p>\n<p>Clothing for both children and the mother<\/p>\n<p>Basic necessities<\/p>\n<p>Food and supplies<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Those wishing to help can donate through the family\u2019s GoFundMe page: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/urgent-help-for-sequenyas-family-after-fire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">GoFundMe for Queen Akins\u2019 Family<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Multiple local organizations have been contacted for assistance, including United Way, City Rescue Mission, and various churches, but immediate help has been limited.
