PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA. (WSVN) – – A senior dog was found by a good Samaritan after he wandered from his Florida home and got trapped in a construction hole.<\/p>\n
A family in Port Saint Lucie searched for days for their 16-year-old dog, Colt, who doesn\u2019t walk fast but somehow made it a mile and a half from home when their front door didn\u2019t latch.<\/p>\n
Doorbell camera footage captured him slipping out the front door Thursday night.<\/p>\n
The family printed flyers, knocked on doors, and posted in Facebook groups, but had heard nothing back.<\/p>\n
\u201cDevastated, not knowing if he was suffering, He\u2019s my baby,\u201d said Colt\u2019s owner, Kristy Underwood, \u201cand by Saturday, we were crying, we didn\u2019t think we were going to see him again, we\u2019ve had him since he was six weeks old.\u201d<\/p>\n
Colt, unbeknownst to the family, had been trapped at the bottom of a deep, narrow construction hole.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was cold Thursday night, it rained Friday, I mean, he\u2019s been through it,\u201d said Underwood.<\/p>\n
Luckily, a cyclist who happened to be passing by at the right time heard some strange noises.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd that\u2019s when I stumbled across little Colt, in dire need, and, you know, not looking too good,\u201d said Andrew Balaschak.<\/p>\n
The man then called 911 and stayed with Colt until help arrived.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust kind of hanging out right here, trying to get some water down in his mouth, as much as I could,\u201d said Andrew Balaschak.<\/p>\n
When animal control arrived, they pulled Colt out and alerted his family that he had been found.<\/p>\n
\u201cEcstatic, I\u2019m shaking, I\u2019m crying, I couldn\u2019t believe it, so I ran in, and I actually woke my husband,\u201d said Underwood. \u201cI\u2019m like, we got to go, we got to go, they found Colt, he jumped up, he\u2019s like, what? where?\u201d<\/p>\n
And now Colt\u2019s doing much better, with enough food, water, and lots of sleep.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, look at this guy,\u201d said Underwood. \u201cThank you from the bottom of our hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n
The family is asking anyone with open construction sites to secure them.<\/p>\n
