Swedish furniture company IKEA<\/a> has launched a children’s furniture and decor collection at a Miami art week<\/a> installation, informed by play studies the company conducted following the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

IKEA created the temporary IKEA Open House Miami installation in a vacant retail space on Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, to launch its Grejsimojs children’s collection, which consists of 33 objects designed by creatives such as Carl Ojertsam<\/a> and Marta Krupi\u0144ska.<\/p>\n

\"PinkIKEA created an installation to showcase its Grejsimojs children’s decor collection during Miami art week 2025<\/p>\n

Designed in-house, the installation consists of a central display of Grejsimojs objects, and four individual installations that branch off around it, each highlighting one particular product.<\/p>\n

For instance, a dog-shaped light by Krupi\u0144ska was displayed in an oversized bright-blue dog house, while a Mammut chair<\/a> redesigned with a furry covering by Ojerstam was displayed on the deck of a baby pink pool as a nod to Miami.<\/p>\n

The display was further organised into overarching themes of the collection that denoted a certain type of play \u2013 such as compete, imagine and create.<\/p>\n

These types of play were derived from the most recent Ikea Play Report<\/a>, a semiannual internal study that surveys the play habits of children.<\/p>\n

This most recent Play Study was conducted shortly after the pandemic and looked particularly at the effects on young families.<\/p>\n

“We really saw that after the pandemic that there is a lot of stress in people’s lives, especially in family life, and people feel much more worried,” IKEA of Sweden product design manager Anna Granath told Dezeen.<\/p>\n

“Nowadays, there’s so much worry in the children’s lives, so parents and children want more play in their lives, and they want more meaningful play.”<\/p>\n

\"IKEAA central feature showed all the furniture together, while smaller installations highlighted them individually<\/p>\n

Objects such as a bright yellow cartoonish giraffe lamp and a cactus-shaped hanger and storage bin by Krupi\u0144ska are also meant to be displayed around the house, rather than being cleaned up and tucked away at night.<\/p>\n

This is so that play objects remain easily accessible, according to the brand.<\/p>\n

“We wanted to make play be in the whole home all the time,” said Granath. “And for it to be allowed to be in the living room for the parents, to make it look good when the children have gone to bed.”<\/p>\n

“[Based on] the Play Report, we thought \u2013 what if we make a collection where we could make play more accessible and be a part of home furnishing.”<\/p>\n

Other objects in the Grejsimojs collection include a small wood table and chair with orange legs designed by Wiebke Braasch and a duck-shaped rocking horse by Ellen Hallstr\u00f6m.<\/p>\n

The Grejsimojs Miami pop-up will be on display through the 6 December weekend, and available online starting in February 2026.<\/p>\n

Other installations and events during this year’s Miami art week include a rotating library by Es Devlin<\/a> installed on the beach, and the collectible furniture fair Design Miami<\/a>.<\/p>\n
