{"id":74529,"date":"2025-12-07T15:43:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-07T15:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/74529\/"},"modified":"2025-12-07T15:43:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-07T15:43:08","slug":"university-of-florida-breaks-ground-on-college-of-dentistry-building-facelift-and-overhaul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/74529\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Florida breaks ground on College of Dentistry building facelift and overhaul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The original College of Dentistry building was errected half a century ago at UF. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The University of Florida (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufl.edu\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">UF<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/dental.ufl.edu\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">College of Dentistry<\/a> building is undergoing major renovations and a <a href=\"https:\/\/vr.yulio.com\/vres\/t5YZmxyQYz\/fprs\/giEK3s1GLF\/preview\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">multi-phase<\/a> overhaul that will add more than 100,000 square feet to the facility.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">UF officials announced this month that the 11-story college \u201cdental tower\u201d is undergoing waterproofing and insulation upgrades. There is also a modernization of key spaces in the existing building and a new building addition that will tack on a new area that will cover the 100,0000 of additional space. The original building was erected 50 years ago and the new additions and upgrades are expected to be completed in five years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis project represents the largest investment made by the state of Florida in a medical science building at any state university,\u201d said Mori Hosseini, UF Board of Trustees Chair in a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ufl.edu\/2025\/12\/college-of-dentistry-groundbreaking\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">news release<\/a>. \u201cWe fought for this because we understand what it will deliver for our community \u2013 for our students, our faculty and families across Florida.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some of the brick exterior of the original building is being removed. Crews are \u201csealing\u201d the structure with work that is designed to prevent water intrusion. When that\u2019s complete they\u2019ll modernize the front of the building with a panel system that blend with the new addition. Work on that element is set to begin in August.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe transformation helps ensure that the College of Dentistry remains at the forefront of academic distinction education, research and clinical innovation for decades to come,\u201d said c, Dean of the college in Gainesville.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allegiant360.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-678805 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Sunburn-Ad-728x90-1-e1718033295481.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When completed, the College of Dentistry will see every room modernized within the building. Technological upgrades will accompany the physical overhaul as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe College of Dentistry faculty and students deserve a space that allows them to focus on the patient, and the patients deserve a building that puts them at ease,\u201d said UF Interim President Donald Landry. \u201cThe research done here will be transformative and add to the glory of this institution.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The original College of Dentistry building was errected half a century ago at UF.
