TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – For the eighth straight year, local highs school wrestlers gathered in the Bob Albertson Gym at Florida high for the Cam Brown Seminole Classic. The two-day tournament wrapped up on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The tournament honors the legacy of Brown, a former Florida High standout multi-sport athlete who passed away of bone cancer during his senior year in 2017.<\/p>\n
Brown\u2019s dad, Sam, is not surprised that Seminoles wrestling coach Clay Allen has kept the tournament going for so long, but he\u2019s grateful to be able to honor his son\u2019s legacy every year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fact that he gave his word, I\u2019m not surprised at all that it\u2019s still going on,\u201d said Brown, of Allen. \u201cHe said he was going to do it and of course he\u2019s doing exactly what he said. It is a little surprising how big it\u2019s gotten though. There\u2019s a lot of people that come to this thing now. So that part is really cool.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite the good that\u2019s come from the event, it\u2019s a day that comes with emotions and memories for the Brown family.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s mixed emotions,\u201d he said. \u201cYou\u2019re quite proud obviously of who he was as a person and what he did and how he impacted people. But at the same time it\u2019s rough, because I miss my boy.\u201d<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s outstanding wrestler for the tournament was Jordan Haigler, the younger brother of Cam\u2019s old practice partner, Will.<\/p>\n
