{"id":75290,"date":"2025-12-08T08:40:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T08:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/75290\/"},"modified":"2025-12-08T08:40:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T08:40:07","slug":"fsu-football-seminoles-decline-bowl-invitation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/75290\/","title":{"rendered":"FSU Football: Seminoles decline bowl invitation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dec. 7, 2025, 7:01 p.m. ET<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/ncaaf\/teams\/florida-state-seminoles\/3409\/\" data-autotag=\"06ee9050-e06d-4638-a179-a4d7f17000df\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Florida State Seminoles<\/a> have reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Brett_McMurphy\/status\/1997804720929608059\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow\">declined their 2025 bowl game invitation<\/a>, per Brett McMurphy of On3.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Despite a 5-7 finish, Florida State could have technically made a bowl game <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20120803020639\/http:\/\/www.ncaa.org\/wps\/wcm\/connect\/public\/NCAA\/Resources\/Latest+News\/2012\/July\/DI+Board+approves+process+to+fill+football+bowls+in+case+of+shortfall\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">thanks to NCAA rules<\/a> that say if there aren&#8217;t enough teams with six wins to fill all the available bowl spots, the organization allows 5-7 teams to be selected, prioritizing those with the best Academic Progress Rate (APR). FSU had the second-highest APR out of any 5-7 team in the country, only behind Auburn, which also declined its bowl invitation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">After a maddening 40-21 loss to Florida two weeks ago, it makes sense why Florida State declined the spot.
