IOSCO COUNTY, Mich. \u2013 The body of a missing boater from Florida was recovered from Lake Huron by Michigan State Police in a drowning incident.<\/p>\n
The recovery occurred on Thursday (Oct. 16) at 1:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Michigan State Police said the victim was found at a depth of 55 feet, about half a mile from the initial call location, using marine sonar technology.<\/p>\n
Identification confirmed the victim as a 36-year-old Florida resident. <\/p>\n
Officials said they are withholding the victim\u2019s name until the next of kin can be located and notified.<\/p>\n
The Iosco County Sheriff\u2019s Office is investigating the missing person and presumed drowning case in Lake Huron, roughly six miles offshore from Dyer Road in Alabaster Township.<\/p>\n
Initial reports came to Arenac County Central Dispatch around 11:17 a.m. on Oct. 15, 2025. <\/p>\n
A 36-year-old Florida man was seen in the water near a small capsized boat. <\/p>\n
The Arenac County Sheriff\u2019s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard responded and began search and rescue efforts near the Iosco and Arenac County line.<\/p>\n
During the operation, it was determined that the incident likely occurred in Iosco County waters.<\/p>\n
At about 1:29 p.m. on Oct. 15, Iosco County Central Dispatch sent the Tawas City Dive Team, Oscoda Township Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team, and local law enforcement to the area near Dyer Road and the county line.<\/p>\n
Information indicated the missing man had been trying to return from shore to a 40-foot cabin cruiser in a small aluminum boat when the boat overturned and partially sank. <\/p>\n
The cabin cruiser occupant saw the man in Lake Huron but lost sight of him afterward.<\/p>\n
Poloce said the man was not wearing or equipped with any personal flotation device or lifejacket.<\/p>\n
Search and rescue efforts on the water continued until about 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 15, when they were suspended.<\/p>\n
The Michigan State Police Marine Services resumed search and recovery operations on Oct. 16. The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
