TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – It\u2019s the season of giving all across the nation and in Tallahassee, as community members find ways to help those in need. <\/p>\n
Leon County school board member Darryl Jones hosted a toy and coat drive Sunday afternoon in hopes of donations to be distributed amongst Title I schools, Family Promise of the Big Bend and families in public housing.<\/p>\n
\u201cUs coming together to make certain that those children and their needs are met during the holidays,\u201d Jones said. \u201cThis time of year can often times be a time of lack and a time of need, but our neighbors have been most generous.\u201d<\/p>\n

The drive was in partnership with several community organizations, with one goal: to make sure families facing tough times can still put gifts underneath the tree for their kids. <\/p>\n
\u201cI just believe that our children and their families, our working class families, need to know that we are indeed a caring community and we see that every year now for the last 15 years,\u201d the school board member said.<\/p>\n
Children\u2019s toys and winter coats were collected. Jones said at last check, they had more than 100 bicycles and hundreds of toy donations. <\/p>\n
