WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 Forget white-knuckling your way down I-95\u2014Archer Aviation says the future of the South Florida commute could be a 10-to-20-minute flight above it.<\/p>\n

Archer Aviation on Wednesday unveiled plans to launch a Miami-area air-taxi network designed to streamline travel across the rapidly growing metro.<\/p>\n

The taxi aims to connect the four major cities of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach with 10-20 minute flights that bypass traffic in a “safe and efficient way,” according to Archer Aviation’s news release.<\/p>\n

The network is also set to connect Miami International Airport (MIA), Fort Lauderdale\u2013Hollywood International Airport (FLL), and Palm Beach International Airport (PBI).<\/p>\n

According to the press release, the aviation venture also plans to roll out new infrastructure and vertiports across South Florida:<\/p>\n

Related Ross will partner with Archer to build a vertiport inside its downtown West Palm Beach development.Hard Rock Stadium and Apogee Golf Club \u2014 both equipped with existing helipads \u2014 will prepare their sites for electric operations, paving the way for future air taxi service. Hard Rock Stadium hosts the Miami Dolphins, University of Miami Hurricanes, Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, the Miami Open presented by Itau, and other major international events.Dragon Global\u2019s Magic City Innovation District in Miami\u2019s Little Haiti also plans to develop a vertiport, aiming to bring air taxis into one of the city\u2019s most ambitious mixed-use tech and innovation hubs.<\/p>\n

The aircraft are designed to carry four passengers and make rapid, back-to-back trips, cutting a 60\u201390 minute commute down to just 10\u201320 minutes.<\/p>\n
