WILTON MANORS, Fla. \u2014 Two South Florida restaurants are proving that great food and clean kitchens can go hand in hand. <\/p>\n
Sushi Erika in North Bay Village and Ethos Greek Bistro in Wilton Manors both earned Local 10\u2019s Clean Plate Award after receiving zero violations on their most recent unannounced state food safety inspections.<\/p>\n
When Local 10\u2019s Jeff Weinsier walked into Sushi Erika, chef and owner Erika Kushi had no idea why he was there.<\/p>\n
\u201cYea, everything went well. Is everything OK?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything is perfect,\u201d Weinsier told her.<\/p>\n
\u201cYea. Isn\u2019t it? You\u2019re scaring me,\u201d Kushi said with a laugh.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s when Weinsier handed her the Clean Plate Award and told her, \u201cDon\u2019t worry, this is no Dirty Dining!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAhh, that\u2019s pretty cool,\u201d Kushi said. \u201cIt went well from what I am aware of.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sushi Erika, located at 1700 Kennedy Causeway in North Bay Village, has earned perfect inspections not once but twice.<\/p>\n
\u201cVery few places get zero violations,\u201d Weinsier said. \u201cNot only did you have them last time, but you had zero before.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kushi says keeping the restaurant spotless is a team effort.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think cleanliness is very important not only for our customers but our employees,\u201d she said. \u201cFood safety is important. We all have our certificates here for food safety management as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all work as a team,\u201d she added. \u201cHaving a clean restaurant is our top priority. We are a very small restaurant, even our bathroom. We take pride in having clean bathrooms, even our kitchen, clean tables.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kushi\u2019s passion for sushi and cleanliness comes from her family.<\/p>\n
\u201cI take after my parents,\u201d she said. \u201cThey had a restaurant down the street. They retired a few years ago. Japanese Market was right down the street.\u201d<\/p>\n
Before returning to the kitchen, Kushi held up her award and smiled.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel honored,\u201d she said. \u201cThis isn\u2019t only for me, it\u2019s for my staff here as well. I\u2019m very proud. Thank you so much.\u201d<\/p>\n
At 2055 Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors, Ethos Greek Bistro is earning a reputation that\u2019s as clean as its kitchen.<\/p>\n
General Manager Leidy Lozano was all smiles when Weinsier walked in with the Clean Plate Award.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou recently had an inspection?\u201d Weinsier asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes,\u201d Lozano replied.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know what you got?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYes \u2014 perfect score,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cZero violations,\u201d Weinsier said, handing her the award.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you so much. That is amazing,\u201d Lozano replied.<\/p>\n
Ethos has earned zero violations twice since 2024, a record Lozano attributes to consistency and teamwork.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to train, we train and keep an eye out at all moments,\u201d she said. \u201cIf you see something that is not done right, make sure it is corrected immediately. That is the best way to do it and everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
The word Ethos means \u201ccharacter,\u201d and the restaurant stays true to its name. The menu focuses on the fresh, light, and healthy flavors of the Mediterranean diet \u2014 food inspired by the island of Crete.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is amazing,\u201d Lozano said, holding her award. \u201cI\u2019m going to put it so everyone knows that we are doing the right thing and that it is a safe place to come to eat.\u201d<\/p>\n
Restaurants with perfect inspections don\u2019t come around often.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019d like to do more Clean Plate segments,\u201d Weinsier said. \u201cBut places with zero violations don\u2019t pop up often. So thank you to those who do and put our health and safety on the menu.\u201d<\/p>\n
Inspectors with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation also found zero violations at these establishments over the last three weeks, earning them a perfect score on their routine visits.<\/p>\n
