FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 Two teenagers were taken to the hospital after the Kayak they were operating was struck by a powerboat on Saturday. <\/p>\n
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), at about 6 p.m., officers responded to a boating crash near the North Causeway Bridge in the city of Fort Pierce. <\/p>\n
Read more: FDLE investigates off-duty deputy-involved shooting that killed man in Boynton Beach<\/a><\/p>\n The FWC’s investigation revealed that two teenagers, ages 16 and 17, were traveling in an unlit Kayak traveling under the North Causeway Bridge. Around the same time, a powerboat carrying two people was traveling east under the same bridge. <\/p>\n The powerboat struck the kayak and the teenagers, who FWC says jumped into the water when they saw the vessel approaching.<\/p>\n Both teenagers were taken to the hospital. The 16-year-old was uninjured, and the 17-year-old sustained life-threatening injuries. <\/p>\n FWC says the crash is under investigation. <\/p>\n Find more ways to stay up to date with your latest local news.
