{"id":77038,"date":"2025-12-09T14:54:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T14:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/77038\/"},"modified":"2025-12-09T14:54:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T14:54:11","slug":"florida-set-to-carry-out-record-18th-death-row-execution-of-the-year-wftv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/77038\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida set to carry out record 18th death row execution of the year \u2013 WFTV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">STARK, Fla. \u2014 A man convicted of stabbing a woman to death during a home invasion robbery is set to be executed at Florida State Prison Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">58-year-old Mark Allen Geralds was convicted of first-degree murder in Bay County in 1990.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">It would be a record 18th death sentence carried out in Florida this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">Death penalty opponents said they are alarmed at the current pace of executions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">Another execution is scheduled for next Thursday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">There are currently 253 people on death row in Florida.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wftv.com\/mobile-apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wftv.com\/mobile-apps\">Click here<\/a> to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps.
