TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Middle school students in Leon County Schools will no longer have to lug their Chromebooks home due to a new policy.<\/p>\n
After consulting with LCS middle school principals, it was decided that students will leave their Chromebooks at school instead of bringing them back and forth from their homes, according to school officials. <\/p>\n
LCS says the plan is to fully implement the change by spring break. <\/p>\n
\u201cEach school will communicate directly with their parents to their specific timeline,\u201d LCS said.<\/p>\n
Fairview Middle School sent an email to parents and guardians regarding the policy on Monday. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis change will help reduce delays in students not having necessary materials, decrease screen fatigue, promote handwriting fluency, and encourages independent thinking,\u201d the email read. \u201cWhile this is a change from recent practice, we expect to see benefits for students as a whole.\u201d<\/p>\n
For students who require a Chromebook at home, a check-out process will be available at each school. <\/p>\n
