(WCTV\/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) &#8211; The first property tax amendment is ready for a vote in the full House when the legislative session begins in January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A third House committee approved a constitutional amendment <a href=\"https:\/\/flhouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=82731&amp;SessionId=113\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/flhouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=82731&amp;SessionId=113\">offering a larger homestead exemption<\/a> for people paying property insurance. This is one of eight different proposals the House is considering putting before voters next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Property taxes are written in the state constitution as a way to fund local government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Senate has not made any formal recommendations but is talking with the House about property taxes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Rep. Toby Overdorf, the House Property Tax Committee chair, said discussions are ongoing with the Senate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe are talking about all things associated with property taxes with the Senate. I\u2019m looking forward to finding a landing point and finding some commonalities there,\u201d Overdorf said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Whatever the legislature decides on property taxes, voters will have to approve the amendment with at least 60 percent of the vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 WCTV.
