HOBE SOUND, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 Martin County schools are leading the way in integrating artificial intelligence into classroom instruction, with students as young as elementary school benefiting from the technology. <\/p>\n
At Hobe Sound Elementary, teacher Barb Cagni utilizes the Magic School A.I. program to enhance math lessons, guiding students through concepts such as multiplication without providing direct answers. <\/p>\n
“It\u2019ll walk them step by step, to how to have gotten that answer,” Cagni told CBS12 News. <\/p>\n
The program also helps students practice reading and writing skills in math class, while Mrs. Cagni encourages traditional methods like pencil and paper for problem-solving.<\/p>\n
The A.I.’s backend allows Mrs. Cagni to identify students who may be struggling, offering a private way to address their concerns. <\/p>\n

This anonymity helps students who might be hesitant to raise their hands in class.<\/p>\n Patrick Cermeno, a former teacher and now district Digital Learning Specialist, played a key role in implementing A.I. in Martin County schools. <\/p>\n He says the platforms are safe for students, with parameters to prevent distractions and inappropriate content. <\/p>\n “It\u2019s just going to patiently redirect them if they try to pull it off task,” Cermeno explained.<\/p>\n The district has also adopted A.I. programs for teachers to collaborate on lesson plans and assessments, increasing efficiency and allowing educators to focus more on teaching and supporting students.<\/p>\n Find more ways to stay up to date with your latest local news.
