Erik Levasseur.Your neighborhood: Local coverage from WPBF 25 NewsLevasseur was shot twice in the face while he and five other officers were responding to a call for service on Dec. 1 in the Lake Park neighborhood in Tradition.The suspect was shot and killed at the scene.Since the shooting, Levasseur has had multiple surgeries.The police department said on Tuesday, surgeons successfully removed additional remains from a bullet discovered during evaluation. The bullet shrapnel was lodged deeper than initially expected, but the procedure went well.Levasseur is awake, alert and remains in the trauma intensive care unit at HCA Lawnswood Hospital in Fort Pierce.Levasseur has further consultation regarding reconstructive surgery on his face. The police department said his eyes sustained signification trauma and currently does not have vision.
