The Shore Acres Flood Mitigation Project will provide flooding relief to residents and ensure essential stormwater operations can continue during power outages,” said Mayor Kenneth T. Welch. “I want to thank our City team and our delegation members, Senator DiCeglie and Representative Cross for their assistance in securing this funding and for their ongoing work in making our community more resilient against future disasters.”

The Shore Acres Flood Mitigation Project is intended to improve stormwater conveyance within the Shore Acres neighborhood. The project includes construction of new stormwater infrastructure such as box culverts, a stormwater pump station, back flow preventers, and elevation of roadway segments and intersections.

The project will also acquire a parcel of land to house an emergency power facility equipped with a generator-powered pump. This facility will support flood mitigation efforts and ensure essential stormwater operations continue during power outages. The additional $1 million will be used to purchase the generator and the necessary startup components for constructing the permanent pump station on the newly acquired parcel.

“Shore Acres is among the most flood-prone neighborhoods in Pinellas County, where frequent tidal impacts and intense rain events have taken a serious toll on residents. I was proud to sponsor this appropriations request to support the City of St. Petersburg’s efforts to engineer and construct new stormwater infrastructure that will reduce roadway and home flooding, strengthen neighborhood resiliency, and enhance public safety for families who call Shore Acres home,” said State Senator Nick DiCeglie.

“This project is essential in the long-term resiliency, planning, and flood mitigation of the Shore Acres neighborhood. The new stormwater pump station, back flow preventers, box culverts, and other mitigation measures that will be funded through this grant marks a step forward in proactive flood protection and strengthens our citywide push to fortify neighborhoods against damaging storms. I’m proud to have partnered with Senator DiCeglie and the Mayor Welch’s office in securing this funding for our city,” said State Representative Lindsay Cross.

“I am grateful for the work Senator DiCeglie and Rep. Cross has put into securing this funding. I would also like to thank Brejesh Prayman, Claude Tankersley, and the City team for all their efforts in identifying and planning the Connecticut Avenue project. This will be a historic and gamechanging solution to help alleviate flooding in that area of Shore Acres,” said City Council Member Mike Harting.

The total cost of the Shore Acres Flood Mitigation Project is estimated at more than $30.8 million. $7,874,335 of this project is funded through an existing FDEP grant awarded to the City in 2023. The additional $1 million is also funded through an FDEP grant.

More information can be found on page 279 of the December 11 City Council agenda at www.stpete.org/CouncilAgendas

City of St. Petersburg Invests Additional $1 Million in Shore Acres Flood Mitigation Project to Support Resiliency Efforts…

[13
202,204,203,199,201,200
post-80708","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-st-petersburg","tag-st-pete","tag-st-pete-headlines","tag-st-pete-news","tag-st-petersburg","tag-st-petersburg-headlines","tag-st-petersburg-news
["GET
