(WCTV) &#8211; Tallahassee police arrested a man in connection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/07\/06\/man-killed-suspect-custody-after-shooting-tallahassee\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/07\/06\/man-killed-suspect-custody-after-shooting-tallahassee\/\">with a July shooting<\/a> near the University Courtyard Apartments. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Derrick McMillian, 26, was arrested on Thursday and charged with second-degree murder, according to TPD.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">On July 6, TPD were trying to disperse a large crowd on South Adams Street when a shooting occurred. Officers found one man dead from a gunshot wound near the entrance of the University Courtyard Apartments.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"McMillian, 26, is charged with second-degree murder in connection to a July shooting in...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/NOOILH4KXFEBLKG7MXPTTQOQ3A.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>McMillian, 26, is charged with second-degree murder in connection to a July shooting in Tallahassee(Leon County Jail)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">McMillian was seen shooting a gun at the time of the shooting and was taken into custody. He was later released due to limited evidence in the investigation at the time. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">According to arrest papers, McMillian claimed he was walking through the parking lot when he heard two groups begin to argue and heard gunshots. He told police he ran and hid before being chased. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">McMillian said he turned around to shoot back at the person who was chasing him, who he claimed had fired shots. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Arrest papers show surveillance video obtained by TPD shows the victim, identified as Mark Williams, and three other men walking together. The video shows them hearing gunshots before running and trying to hide.
