YEAH, I THINK IT MIGHT BE JUST A TINY BIT COOLER IN D.C. THAN CENTRAL FLORIDA. YOU REALLY CAN’T BEAT THE WEATHER HERE, BUT ULTIMATELY UPPER 60S LOW 70S THERE. JUST LIKE WHAT WE’RE SEEING THIS MORNING OUT THE DOOR. SO LET’S TAKE YOU OUT TOWARDS THE COAST RIGHT NOW ACROSS NEW SMYRNA BEACH. TEMPERATURE WISE, YOU’RE BACK IN THE LOWER 70S, SO YOU ACTUALLY HAVE COOLED AN ADDITIONAL DEGREE OVER THE LAST HOUR, 73 DEGREES, JUST LIKE DAYTONA BEACH. AND YOU CARRY THE SAME MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES TO START OFF THE MORNING. WE’LL TRANSITION TO MORE SUNSHINE. BUT PLEASE, IF YOU’RE GOING TOWARDS THE BEACH, MAKE SURE YOU’RE PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO THOSE FLAG CONDITIONS. WE HAVE THE THREAT OF LIFE CONCERNING RIP CURRENTS THAT’S ACROSS FLAGLER, VOLUSIA AND BREVARD COUNTY TODAY. IT WILL CARRY THAT STRETCH ALL THE WAY ACROSS YOUR WEEKEND. NOW, SPECIFICALLY FOR FLAGLER COUNTY, WE DO HAVE A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN PLACE IN WHICH SURROUNDING THE PERIODS OF HIGH TIDE WILL SEE THAT CHANCE FOR SOME MINOR BEACH EROSION. BUT OUT THE DOOR, MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES ARE PRESENT WITH A FEW SPRINKLES OF RAIN HERE AND THERE. THESE ARE SLIDING IN FROM THE NORTH AND THE EAST, SO WE SAW A FEW LIGHT SHOWERS PULLING ACROSS ORANGE COUNTY INTO LAKE COUNTY, BUT ULTIMATELY THE SUNSHINE THAT IS GOING TO BE THE BIGGER PICTURE FOR TODAY. HERE’S THAT COLD FRONT MOVING IN. THAT’S WHAT’S RESPONSIBLE FOR THOSE FEW SHOWERS THAT WE’RE STARTING OFF THE MORNING WITH. BUT STILL A LOT OF DRY AIR SURROUNDING THE GULF AND ALL ACROSS THE I-4 CORRIDOR AS WELL. WE’LL SEE THOSE DRY CONDITIONS TODAY, WHICH MEANS MORE SUNSHINE COMING YOUR WAY, ESPECIALLY FOR OUR COASTAL COMMUNITIES TO UPPER 70S LOWER 80S AS YOU PEAK LATER ON TODAY, THAT COLD FRONT WILL HAVE YOU A LITTLE BIT COOLER THAN THE TEMPERATURES WE SAW YESTERDAY, DROPPING ABOUT 2 OR 3 DEGREES. COUPLE OF CLOUDS THOUGH IN THE PICTURE TODAY. SMALL CHANCE FOR THOSE ISOLATED SHOWERS COMING IN FROM THE NORTH AND THE EAST, BUT NOT TOO FAR. WIDESPREAD RAIN COVERAGE ONLY ABOUT 10% FOR YOUR AFTERNOON. TEMPERATURE WISE 83 DEGREES FOR YOUR HIGH IN ORLANDO TODAY 86 ACROSS WINTER HAVEN. THAT LOOKS LIKE IT’S GOING TO BE THE WARMEST PLACE TO BE. BUT TRACKING THE TROPICS. WE HAVE SOME WARM CARIBBEAN WATERS IN WHICH THIS DISTURBANCE THAT WE’RE WATCHING MOVING ACROSS THE ATLANTIC OCEAN SHOWS A 30% CHANCE FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT. WE’RE GOING TO LOOK AT THE GFS LONG RANGE MODEL IN PARTICULAR. WE DO SEE THIS POSSIBLY BECOMING A TROPICAL DEPRESSION AS WE HEAD INTO NEXT WEDNESDAY COMING UP. BUT FROM THERE, THE GFS MODEL DOES SOMETHING INTERESTING. IT’S GOING TO SLINGSHOT IT OUT TOWARDS THE ATLANTIC ONCE AGAIN, IN WHICH WE’LL SEE THOSE WIND SPEEDS POSSIBLY PICK UP. SO WE’LL KEEP OUR EYES ON THAT SYSTEM. STILL A LOT OF TIME BETWEEN THEN AND NOW. AND THAT INCLUDES TEMPERATURES WARMING THIS WEEKEND, WHICH WILL BE BACK IN THE LOWER 80S. WATCHING THE WEST VIRGINIA MOUNTAINEERS TAKE ON OUR UCF KNIGHTS. THEN AS WE CONTINUE ACROSS YOUR WEEKEND, WE’RE RISING UPPER 80S ON SUNDAY. THE SUNSHINE IS BACK, BUT ON MONDAY WE’LL HAVE ANOTHER FRONTAL BOUNDARY EMERGING HERE IN CENTRAL FLORIDA. TEMPERATURE WISE, YOU SHOW 87 DEGREES FOR YOUR AFTERNOON HIGH, AND WE’LL KEEP ON ROCKING WITH THE MID AND THE UPPER 80S ALL ACROSS YOUR UPCOMING WORKWEEK.

Dangerous Rip Current Risk Persists in Central Florida | Monitoring Chance For Our Next Tropical Depression

Dangerous Rip Current Risk Persists in Central Florida | Monitoring Chance For Our Next Tropical Depression

   Updated: 8:51 AM EDT Oct 17, 2025

  Editorial Standards ⓘ

Dangerous Rip Current Risk Persists in Central Florida | Monitoring Chance For Our Next Tropical DepressionOvernight lows are back in the sixties to kick off your morning, and expect to stay below average with highs in the low eighties. Today’s “slightly cooler” workweek finish is courtesy of a weak cold front pulling in from the north. Now while most of us in Central Florida are expected to wrap the week with dry conditions there is a chance for a few coastal showers along today’s front. These lingering showers will clear by the afternoon, with widespread sunshine in the picture today. Out along the coast a NE flow will keep a high risk of life-threatening rip currents through the weekend, so entering the water is highly discouraged. That risk is across all of our Atlantic Beaches, but specifically in Flagler County there is also a Coastal Flood Advisory issued with the greatest concerns surrounding high tide today. Enjoy the sunshine and stay cool.

Dangerous Rip Current Risk Persists in Central Florida | Monitoring Chance For Our Next Tropical Depression

Overnight lows are back in the sixties to kick off your morning, and expect to stay below average with highs in the low eighties.
