TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 A 21-year-old from Tallahassee was sentenced to four years in federal prison for multiple gun-related offenses. <\/p>\n
The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the sentence on Friday, stating that Anthony Lamorris Davis, Jr., was found guilty of two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of possession of a machine gun. <\/p>\n
“Our law enforcement partners work tirelessly every day to keep our communities safe from violent criminals like this defendant,” John P. Heekin, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, stated. “We are committed to ensuring that the residents of the Northern District of Florida have safe streets and crime-free communities.”<\/p>\n
Court documents reveal that Davis was caught on two occasions, July 21, 2024, and October 25, 2024, in possession of a Glock firearm that had been illegally modified into a machine gun. <\/p>\n
Additionally, the DOJ said that Davis has five prior felony convictions, including two convictions for aggravated assault with a firearm.<\/p>\n
See also: Over 80 dogs rescued from suspected dog fighting operation in North Florida<\/a><\/p>\n Following his prison sentence, Davis will serve an additional four years of supervised release.<\/p>\n Chief Revell of the Tallahassee Police Department emphasized the importance of removing illegal firearms from the streets. “Taking illegal guns out of the hands of convicted felons is essential to making our streets safer,” he said. “This case is a testament to the commitment our officers show in combating gun violence.”<\/p>\n The DOJ said the investigation involved the Tallahassee Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. <\/p>\n This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative focused on addressing illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime, per the DOJ.<\/p>\n Find more ways to stay up to date with your latest local news.
