TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The family of five-year-old Missy Mogle joined community members in southeast Tallahassee to honor her life by planting a tree at a playground where she loved to play.<\/p>\n
Missy\u2019s grandmother, Pepper Mogle, attended the emotional memorial along with other family members and residents of the Southwood community. Together, they planted a red oak tree as a lasting tribute to the young girl.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was a very loving, high-spirited little girl who always had a smile on her face no matter what,\u201d said her grandmother, Pepper Mogle, with tears in her eyes.<\/p>\n

Missy was found unresponsive in May at a Southwood home after investigators say she was beaten and smothered. Her mother, Chloe Spencer<\/a>, and stepfather, Daniel Spencer<\/a>, have since been arrested and accused of cruel neglect and abuse in connection with her death.<\/p>\n Pepper Mogle said Missy liked to play outside, so it was fitting to have the memorial at the Southwood playground. <\/p>\n Mogle said the tree reflects Missy\u2019s love of nature. \u201cShe loved the pretty colors on different trees,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n As the case moves forward, family members are also advocating for change.
